                                                                    Torrevieja

Torrevieja is on the sunny southeast coast of the Costa Blanca, roughly half-way between Alicante and Murcia. In fact, to fly into Torrevieja you can have a choice of two major airports to get there. Your arrival in either Alicante or Murcia airports can get you into Torrevieja within 30 minutes.

Torrevieja, meaning old tower in Spanish,  is known for as a main attraction of being a world class beach resort. But historically it is more famous for its production of sea salt which has been an important export since ancient Roman Times. Today, the town has two salt lakes continuing with salt production making it one of the largest in the European Union.

Torrevieja was once a sleepy fishing village and now is one of the fastest expanding towns along the coast. Its transformation began in the 1980s with many Northern Europeans making this area home. Fishing is still a main industry with a huge harbour containing at least 300 fishing ships. The immense harbour  continues with room for the 900 or so private sports boats.

Torrevieja even through its expansion, the town kept a more tranquil atmosphere as compared to many of its counterparts along the coast. You will find no high-rise skyscrapers but instead, natural salt lakes, fantastic sport fishing, blue flag beaches and points of interest that makes it a pleasure to set your hat and stay awhile for a holiday.

Torrevieja there are five main beaches filled with fine sand and the frequent hidden rocky coves along the coast. The main beaches provide  a full range of water activities including windsurfing, sailing, snorkelling, water skiing, fishing and scuba diving.

Torrevieja Medicinal Baths

Famous for the waters of the salt lagoon, it is said to have curative properties recommended for heart troubles, rheumatism or respiratory illnesses. You don\'t have to be unwell to benefit from taking a dip. The mud isn't bad for your skin either.

Plaza del Molino

The small park is close to the town giving homage to an exact replica windmill that was commonplace to the area in the 19th century. The park has brick pathways making  easy to access to a pond surrounded by specimens of local flora.

Torrevieja Church of Immaculada Concepcion

Previously on the site of temples, the church was built in 1880, located at the Plaza de la Constitucion in the centre of Torrevieja. It is the seat of Catholic Church in Torrevieja offering spectacular demonstrations of faith during Easter (Semana Santa) and Christmas with processions and traditions. Step inside to the Altar to view notable figures and sculptures of interest; several which are dedicated to fisherman.

Museo del Mar y de Sal

The Sea and Salt Museum in Torrevieja is excellent to appease the history buffs.  The salt industry is illustrated as well as one of the most important attractions of this museum. The Delfin S-61 submarine, given by the Spanish Ministry of Defence can be visited in the fishing port area. It is the only exhibit of its type in Spain.

 The Park of Nations

Torrevieja as a surprisingly tranquil oasis, the Park of Nations is nestled between the highway N332 and Torrevieja. It has a scale reproduction of the map of the European Continent and has been dedicated to all of Europe. It is enchanting with nice green areas, a lake and fascinating fountain, enclosed iguanas and tortoises can be found along with a children's playground and exhibition rooms.
